Communities and Courses now support dark mode on the web. Members switch to a darker view whenever they want, and as the owner you set a separate colour palette for dark mode, so your branding holds up instead of being inverted automatically.

How do members switch to dark mode?

Members select the appearance switcher in the top navigation of the community and choose Dark Mode. Their choice is remembered across refreshes and sessions, so they only set it once. The setting applies to everything they see in the community.

How do I set my own dark mode colours?

Set your light and dark palettes independently from your community settings. Editing one palette does not overwrite the other, so each mode keeps its own brand colours. You can start from a preset community theme or customise the palette yourself, and preview the result as you go.

1. Open your community Settings, then Appearance.
2. Select the Light or Dark colour mode.
3. Choose a preset theme or customise the palette.
4. Preview your changes in real time.
5. Click Save changes.

Where does dark mode apply?

Dark mode covers the whole community experience, not just the main feed. Posts, comments, channels, chats, members, events, calendars, mentions, attachments, About pages and community cards all render in the mode the member picked.

Does it work in courses too?

Yes. Courses, lessons, assessments, assignments, quizzes and live session screens all stay readable and visually consistent in dark mode. Members moving between the feed and a lesson see the same appearance throughout.

Dark mode also extends past individual communities to the wider experience, including discovery, home showcases, onboarding, pricing, integrations, information pages and account screens.

Do I need to change anything in my existing community?

No. Existing communities keep working with no configuration changes. If you have a custom theme and have not set up a separate dark palette, it continues to use your existing colours until you configure one.

Why does this matter for my members?

People spend long sessions in communities, reading discussions, attending events and working through courses. A darker view is easier on the eyes in low light, and because you control the dark palette yourself, your brand still looks deliberate rather than washed out. One point to note: a few screens, such as Studio navigation, do not yet keep the setting when you navigate away.
