When a subscription payment fails, you no longer have to wait and hope. You can now retry the failed payment yourself, straight from the Subscription Details page, for subscriptions collected through NMI, Authorize.Net, Square and Mercado Pago.

This gives you another way to recover subscription income after the automatic retries have run out. It also lets you update the card held on the subscription and collect from a different payment method.

How it works

Go to Payments, then Subscriptions, and open any subscription with an Unpaid or Past due payment status.

Once the automatic retries have been used up, you can:

• Retry the oldest unpaid payment using a card already saved on the account, or a new card you add
• Set that card as the default payment method for the subscription, if you want to
• Retry a failed payment up to three times with the same card
• Wait out a 24 hour cool-down after three unsuccessful attempts before that card can be tried again

Clear warnings tell you when another retry is not yet available.

Why it matters

• Failed payments used to sit unpaid once the automatic retries were finished, leaving you to find another way to collect the money.
• Retrying by hand puts you in control of recovering that income, and it cuts the number of customers you lose simply because a card did not go through.
