You can now mark a field on a Custom Object as unique, so a second record carrying the same value is refused before it saves. The rule applies everywhere records are created in Ignite Funnels, which means duplicates are stopped at the point of entry instead of being cleaned up weeks later.

What does marking a field as unique actually do?

A unique field can hold any given value on only one record. If someone tries to save a second record with a value that already exists, Ignite Funnels refuses it and shows a validation error on that field. The rule is enforced across your whole account, no matter whether the record came from the list view, a Workflow, a form or an import.

Which fields can I make unique?

Four field types support uniqueness: Single Line, Multi Line, Number and Phone. You can also mark the Primary Display Field as unique at the moment you create a new Custom Object, which is the usual choice for things like a registration number or an account code.

You can have up to 10 unique fields on each object.

How do I set it up?

Uniqueness is switched on while the field is being created. It cannot be added to a field that already exists, so for an existing field you need to create a fresh one and move your data across.

1. Go to Settings, then Custom Fields, or start creating a new Custom Object.
2. Choose one of the supported field types: Single Line, Multi Line, Number or Phone.
3. Switch on Mark Field as Unique.
4. Save. The rule takes effect immediately across your whole account.

What happens when someone enters a duplicate?

The record is not saved. The person entering it sees a validation error telling them the value is already in use, and the same check runs on bulk imports, so a spreadsheet with repeated values is flagged rather than quietly loaded.

Can I remove the rule later?

You can remove uniqueness from a field, but only once. Once a field has been changed back to non-unique it cannot be marked unique again, so make the decision deliberately.

1. Go to Settings, then Custom Fields.
2. Click the three dots in the top right corner.
3. Choose Edit Unique Fields and remove the field you no longer want enforced.
