Your WhatsApp Voice Notes Now Play Instantly
Voice notes you send from Conversations now arrive as native WhatsApp voice messages. Your customer taps play in the chat, the same as a voice note from any other contact, instead of downloading an audio file and opening it in another app. Customers who have WhatsApp transcripts switched on can also read the voice note as text.
What actually changed?
Voice notes used to go out as audio attachments, which meant the customer had to download the file before hearing it. Many never did. Voice notes now send in WhatsApp's own voice note format and play inline in the chat.
- Voice notes send in OGG format, which is WhatsApp's native voice message format.
- They play inside the chat, exactly like a voice note recorded in the WhatsApp app.
- WhatsApp's built-in transcription works on them.
Do I need to change any settings?
No. This works automatically for every voice note sent from Conversations. There is nothing to switch on and nothing to reconfigure.
How does my customer turn on transcripts?
Transcription is a setting on the customer's own phone, not something you control. If they want to read voice notes instead of listening, they switch it on in WhatsApp themselves.
- Open WhatsApp on the phone.
- Go to Settings, then Chats.
- Tap Voice message transcripts.
- Select Manually, which shows a Transcribe option when they want it.
- Choose the transcript language.
- Return to the chat and tap Transcribe on any voice note.
If this setting is off or set to Never, no transcript appears.
Why should I use voice notes at all?
A voice note carries tone and warmth that typing does not, and it takes a busy owner ten seconds to record what would take two minutes to type. Now that they play instantly, far more customers actually listen to them.
- Customers are more likely to listen when the note plays without a download.
- Transcripts let customers read the message when they are somewhere noisy or cannot play audio.
- Conversations feel personal without slowing your team down.
