The numeric and money custom fields you keep on Contacts and Opportunities can now be used as metrics, not just as filters or groupings. That means the numbers specific to your business can be added up, averaged and charted directly, instead of being exported to a spreadsheet first.

Which fields can I use as a metric?

Any custom field on Contacts or Opportunities that holds a number or a money value. Deal size, treatment cost, property value, loan amount, order weight, whatever your business tracks. Any new custom field you create appears in the metric picker automatically, with no setup.

How do I add one to a dashboard?

Add the metric the same way you add any other, then pick how it should be totalled. It works in dashboard widgets, in custom reports, and in the Custom Metric module.

1. Open a dashboard widget, a custom report, or the Custom Metric module and go to add a metric.
2. In the Field dropdown, select your numeric or money custom field. It now appears alongside the standard fields.
3. In the Aggregation dropdown, choose Sum, Min, Max or Average.
4. Save. The widget or report reflects that field's aggregated value live.

How can it be totalled?

Four ways, calculated for you rather than tallied by hand. Sum gives you the total, Average gives you the typical value, and Min and Max give you the bottom and top of the range.

Who should use this?

Any business tracking a number that matters to it but that is not a standard field. If you have been recording a value on every contact or deal and then working it out in a spreadsheet at month end, you can build that straight into a dashboard instead.
