Contacts Now Sort Themselves Into the Right Company

When you add a contact or update their email address, Ignite Funnels can now find the right company for them and link the two automatically. If no suitable company exists, it creates one, saves the domain, and fills in the company name and logo for you.

What is new

• A new Company Domain Name field, unique by default
• Contacts are linked to an existing company automatically when the email domain matches
• A new company is created automatically when no suitable match exists
• Companies are enriched with a company name and logo
• Two companies can no longer share the same domain
• Common free email providers are ignored, and you can add your own domains to the exclusion list
• Existing company records are checked before a new one is created
• You can fill in domains for your existing companies when you switch the feature on

Why this matters

If you sell to other businesses, a new contact almost always belongs to a company you already deal with. Until now somebody on your team had to create that company record and link it by hand. Now your company data organises itself in the background as contacts come in.

That means:

• Far less manual work creating and linking companies
• Cleaner company data
• No duplicate company records
• Existing companies keep their contacts, opportunities and notes instead of being replaced by a duplicate
• More reliable Smart Lists, workflows and reports built on company data

How it works

When a contact is created, or their email address is updated, Ignite Funnels checks for a suitable existing company before creating a new one.

For example, if you add a contact with the email address [email protected]:

• If a company already has acme.com as its domain, Sarah is linked to it automatically.
• If you already have an Acme company record with no domain saved, Ignite Funnels recognises it, fills in the domain, and reuses that record instead of creating a duplicate.
• If no suitable company exists, a new one is created and enriched automatically.

How to turn it on

1. Turn the feature on from Settings, then Labs. Look for "Automatic Company Creation & Association by Domain".
2. Go to Settings, then Objects, then Companies.
3. Under Automations, switch on the options you want: enrich companies automatically, create companies from the contact's email domain, and automatically prevent duplicate companies.
4. Add any domains you want ignored under Exclude domains from automatic association.
5. Click Save changes.

The older automation that creates and links companies from a contact's business name keeps working alongside this.

Worth knowing

1. Company links you made yourself are respected and are never replaced automatically.
2. Free email providers such as Gmail and Yahoo are left out of domain-based matching.
3. Matching is exact, so company.com and mail.company.com count as two different domains.
4. Enrichment is best effort. If a name or logo cannot be found, the company is still created.
5. Domains you typed in yourself are never overwritten when domains are filled in in bulk.
