Bring your records in by the thousand

You can import Custom Object records in bulk from a CSV file, using the same create and update flow you already know from Contacts and Opportunities. If you keep properties, policies, vehicles, pets or anything else as a Custom Object, you no longer have to add them one at a time.

What you can do

• Create, update, or create and update Custom Object records from a CSV.
• Handle duplicates using your object's unique fields.
• Decide whether blank cells in the file overwrite existing values or leave them alone.
• Track the import under Bulk Actions, with success and error counts.

How it works

1. Open the Custom Object and click Import.

2. Upload your CSV file.
3. Choose an import mode: Create to add new records, Update to change existing ones (which needs the Record ID), or Create and Update, which updates a record where the Record ID already exists and creates one where it does not.

4. Map your columns to the right fields, review, and start the import.

5. Follow the progress and the results under Bulk Actions.

How duplicates are handled

If your object has more than one unique field mapped, you choose which one to match on. If any other unique field clashes on a row, that row fails rather than going through, so you do not end up with bad duplicates in your records.

Good to know

• You can import one Custom Object at a time.
• The feature is switched on under Settings, then Labs, as Company and Custom Object Import.

Where to find it

Open the Custom Object you want to fill and click Import.
