Clients Now Get Told When You Share a Document With Them
When you share a file with a client through the Client Portal, they now get a notification about it. Contracts, invoices and onboarding documents no longer sit unread because nobody told the client they had arrived, and the client decides for themselves how they want to be alerted.
How do I share a file so the client is notified?
The notification is triggered by the Upload to Client Portal option, so a file only alerts the client once you have marked it as shared with them.
- Open the contact you want to share with.
- Open the Files section from the right-side navigation panel.
- Upload a new file, or select one that is already there.
- Switch on Upload to Client Portal.
- Save the file.
Once saved, the contact receives an in-app notification, and a push notification too if they have that switched on.

Where does the notification reach them?
On both surfaces your clients already use to log in, so they get the alert wherever they happen to be.
- The Client Portal on the web
- The portal mobile app

Can a client turn these notifications off?
Yes. Each client controls their own in-app and push notifications from inside the portal, so someone who prefers to check in on their own schedule can stop the alerts without you changing anything on your side.
- The client logs in to the Client Portal.
- They go to Settings, then Notification Preferences.
- They switch In-app and Push Notifications on or off.
- They save their preferences.
Who should use this?
Any business that sends clients paperwork through the portal and then has to chase them to read it. Accountants, consultants, trainers and anyone working to a signature deadline get the most out of it.
You will find the sharing option in the Files panel on any contact record, under Upload to Client Portal.
