Merging Duplicate Contacts No Longer Loses Their Files

When you merge two contact records, the documents attached to the duplicate now move across to the contact you keep. Previously those files were left behind on the record that disappeared, which meant signed forms, ID copies and quotes had to be found and uploaded again by hand. Nothing is lost in a merge now.

What happens to my files when I merge two contacts?

Every file on the secondary contact transfers automatically to the primary contact. They stay accessible in the primary record's documents section straight after the merge, and there is no manual step to trigger it.

• Files from the secondary contact move to the primary contact automatically.
• All documents stay intact and viewable on the record you keep.
• You no longer need to re-upload anything after a merge.

How do I merge contacts?

The merge itself has not changed. Pick the records, choose which one to keep, and the documents follow.

1. Go to Contacts.
2. Select the contacts you want to merge.
3. Choose the primary contact, which is the record that will remain.
4. Complete the merge as usual.
5. Open the documents section on the primary contact to see all the combined files.

Why does this matter?

Duplicate contacts are normal in any business that takes enquiries from more than one place, and the fix has always carried a risk: merging cleaned up the list but quietly cost you the paperwork. Cleaning your database is now safe to do.
