Stop Facebook Lead Forms Creating Duplicate Contacts
Ignite Funnels can now merge contacts by matching name when the lead comes from a Facebook Lead Form, not just from a Messenger conversation. If the same person fills in your lead form twice, or fills one in after messaging you, they end up as one contact instead of two. This keeps your contact list clean when lead forms do not collect a phone number or email every time.
Why were duplicates happening in the first place?
Contacts are normally matched on phone number or email address. Facebook Lead Forms do not always capture both, so a second submission from the same person had nothing reliable to match on and created a fresh contact. Matching on name closes that gap.
How do I switch it on?
The old single setting has been split into two separate switches, so you can control Messenger and lead forms independently. Turn on whichever ones you want.
- Go to Settings, then Business Profile, then General.
- Find the Facebook contact merge settings.
- Turn on merging by name for Messenger conversations, for Facebook Lead Form submissions, or both.
Why are there two separate settings?
Messenger and lead forms carry different risks of a wrong match, so combining them into one switch forced an all-or-nothing choice. Keeping them separate lets you turn on merging where it helps and leave it off where you would rather keep records apart.
Should I turn this on?
Turn it on if your Facebook lead forms produce repeat entries from the same people and you are cleaning up duplicates by hand. Leave it off if you regularly deal with different people who share a common name, since matching on name alone could join two genuine contacts.
- Fewer duplicate records to merge manually.
- A contact's full history stays on one record.
- Follow-up counts and reports reflect real people rather than repeat entries.
You will find this under Settings, then Business Profile, then General.
