Sort Your Records by the Numbers That Matter
Custom Object list views can now be sorted by your own custom fields, not only by when a record was created or last updated. Sort by price, renewal date, status or priority and the records you need to act on first come to the top.
How do I sort by a custom field?
There are two ways, and which one you use depends on whether the field is already showing as a column. Both give the same result and both remember ascending or descending while you work.
- If the field is already a column, click the column header to sort by it. Click it again to reverse the order.
- If it is not showing as a column, open the list view, click Sort, choose the custom field, then pick ascending or descending.
What if the field I want is not a column?
Use the Sort dropdown instead of the column header. It lists every sortable field on the object, including ones you have chosen not to display, so you can order the list by a field without cluttering the view with an extra column.
Which fields cannot be sorted?
Three field types are not sortable because they can hold several values at once, which gives no single order to sort on. Everything else on your object is available.

Who gets the most out of this?
Anyone running a long list of records where position matters. If you track stock, jobs, properties or subscriptions as Custom Objects, sorting by value or by renewal date turns a list you had to scan into one that answers the question at the top.
You will find this in the list view of any Custom Object, either on the column headers or under the Sort button.
