Stop Asking for a Card When the Order Is Free

Asking someone for card details on an order that costs nothing is the quickest way to lose the sign-up. A new Require card for $0 orders toggle on the Sell Products element hides the payment fields entirely when an order totals zero, so a free checkout completes without any card entry. It is available on forms and surveys.

How do I turn it off for free orders?

The toggle sits on the Sell Products element itself and is on by default, which keeps existing behaviour. Switching it off is what allows free orders through without a card.

1. Add or open a Sell Products element in your form or survey.
2. Turn Require card for $0 orders off.
3. When a customer's selection totals zero with nothing recurring due, the payment fields are hidden and the order completes without card entry.

Does it work when a coupon brings the total to zero?

Yes. A discount code that takes the order to zero has the same effect as a free product: the card fields disappear as soon as the total reaches zero. That makes a full-discount promotion work the way customers expect it to.

When is a card still required?

A card is still collected whenever a future charge is coming or the total cannot be confirmed as zero. This is deliberate, so nothing slips through uncharged.

• Subscriptions, free trials and any order with a recurring amount always require a card, because one is needed for the later charge.
• If the total cannot be confirmed as zero, the card is shown and payment is collected as normal. That covers a pricing summary that fails to load, or a customer submitting while totals are still updating after a product, variant, coupon or order bump change.
• For forms and surveys embedded in a funnel, the funnel's own Require Credit Card setting is used instead of the element setting.
• Donation and custom-amount payment types are unchanged.

Are free orders still recorded?

Yes. A free order is created and stored like any other, so your submissions and order history stay complete. The only difference is that no card was asked for.
