Send a Formal Quote for Work You Are Doing Free

Estimates now accept a total of zero. You can set a product price or the estimate total to nothing and still send a proper, documented quote. This covers free trials, goodwill work, warranty jobs and anything else you want on record without charging for it.

How do I create a zero-value estimate?

You build it exactly like any other estimate. The only difference is that a total of zero no longer blocks you from saving and sending it.

1. Go to Payments, then Estimates.
2. Create an estimate as normal.
3. Set the product prices, or the total, to zero.
4. Send it to your customer.

When would I use this?

Any time the value of the work matters but the charge is nil. A free first service, a repair covered under warranty, a donated job for a community group, or a line item you are waiving on a larger quote all become documented instead of verbal.

Why does sending a free quote help?

A written estimate at zero shows the customer what the work is worth before you waive it. It also keeps your records complete, so free work still appears in your estimate history rather than disappearing because the system would not accept it.
