Understanding DNS Records for Domain Connection - Ignite Funnels help guide

Understanding DNS Records for Domain Connection

September 26, 2026

When you connect a domain, Ignite Funnels shows you one or more DNS records to add at your domain provider. This guide explains what those records mean and how to enter them safely.

Before you begin

  • Always use the exact records shown for your specific domain connection.
  • You can log in to your domain provider and edit its DNS settings.
  • Do not change unrelated records or guess missing values.

How to add the records

  1. Open the instructions. In Ignite Funnels, open the domain connection and view the required DNS records.
  2. Check the record type: A, CNAME, TXT or another type.
  3. Copy the name and value exactly. The name (sometimes called host) and the value (sometimes called target, points to or destination) must match character for character.
  4. Check for conflicts. Look for existing records with the same name before adding or changing anything.
  5. Save only the required records at your domain provider.
  6. Verify. Go back to Ignite Funnels and use the verify option once DNS has had time to update.

What the fields mean

  • Type: the kind of record needed.
  • Name or host: the domain or subdomain the record applies to. Many providers use @ for the main domain and www for the www version.
  • Value or target: where the record points, or the verification code provided.
  • TTL: how long the record is cached. The provider's default is usually fine.
  • Status: whether Ignite Funnels has detected the record.

Common record types

A record

Points a domain or subdomain to an IP address. Use only the IP shown in your instructions.

CNAME record

Points one hostname to another hostname, often used for www or other subdomains. Enter the exact name and target shown. A name can only have one CNAME, so an existing CNAME with the same name will conflict.

TXT record

Stores text used for verification or other services. Copy the value exactly and do not change it. It is normal to have several TXT records on one domain.

Protect your email

Your domain's MX and email-related TXT records keep your email working. Never delete them unless the instructions specifically say so.

When to contact Support

  • The field names at your provider do not match the instructions.
  • An existing record seems to conflict.
  • A required value is missing or unclear.
  • Verification is still pending after 48 hours.
  • Email or another service stops working after a DNS change.
